Early Intervention

Early Intervention is the process of responding to concerns about a child’s development, reducing potential delays and maximizing healthy development. The earlier a concern is addressed, the more parents can do to assist the child during this critical period of growth and development. View our developmental milestones checklist to see if your child appears to be experiencing delays in development.

Kids on the Move provides early intervention services to children under age 3 who have developmental delays or disabilities and reside within the Alpine School District (Utah County). If you are concerned about your child’s development, make a referral and we will provide a FREE assessment to determine if your child is eligible for services, which may include:

  • Help Me Grow

    A free parent information line designed to connect parents to information about child development and community resources. Dial 2-1-1 and ask for Help Me Grow or visit helpmegrowutah.org
  • SibShops

    Sibshops is a nationally recognized program to give information and support to silbings of children with special needs. They meet the second Saturday of each month from 10-12:30 to enjoy fun, games and friendship as well as to discuss the joys and concerns that come from having a brother or sister with significant special needs. The group is for typically developing kids, ages 7-13, who have a sibling with special needs. We have expanded our library services to include toy lending. Stop by the library and check out the new developmental toys, books and puzzles that you can use at home.

Medical Home Portal

The Medical Home Portal offers reliable, useful information and access to local services and resources for physicians, other professionals, and families to help them in caring and advocating for children with special health care needs.

Great Beginnings

This parent class meets once a week on Tuesdays for three weeks, April 16, 23, 30 6:30-8:00 pm. Parents learn about their child’s communication, hearing, and language development. Class also includes training in basic strategies to promote language development and how to work these strategies into daily routines at home.  Free child care may be arranged by calling the receptionist at Kids On The Move 801-221-9930.

Utah Parent Center

The Utah Parent Center (UPC or Center) provides reliable information, empathetic peer support, valuable trainings and effective advocacy for children with disabilities.

  • Q: What if I am concerned that my child is developing slower than other children?
  • A: Review the list of typical developmental milestones and make a referral for a free evaluation and developmental assessment.
  • Q: What does a free evaluation and assessment look like?
  • A: A child development specialist will come to your home to meet with you. The evaluation usually includes observing your child, asking you questions about your child’s development and testing your child in several areas of development.
  • Q: What is the cost for Early Intervention services?
  • A: If your child qualifies for services, you may be charged a monthly family fee based on a sliding fee scale, which is based upon income, family size, and current medical and child care expenses. Families will not be denied services based on an inability to pay.
  • Q: Who is eligible for Early Intervention services?
  • A: Children under 36 months of age who reside in Alpine School District (Utah County) who have a significant delay in at least one area of development or have a qualifying diagnosis may be eligible for services.
  • Q: What is an Individualized Family Service Plan or IFSP?
  • A: The IFSP is a treatment plan created by parents and other team members. It outlines the goals for your child and family as well as services you will receive to help you and your child meet the goals.
  • Q: What is included in early intervention services and where are services provided?
  • A: Children may qualify for a variety of services based on their individual needs. Services are provided primarily in the home or where a child typically spends each day. Kids On The Move offers center-based services depending on the individual needs of the child and the family.
  • Q: How are parents involved in the process?
  • A: As a parent of a child eligible for early intervention services, you have rights that guarantee you and your child certain protections under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
