Early Head Start Services
Parents receive support and resources to help them set and reach goals for their children and themselves. Goals can include things such as helping a child meet a developmental milestone, obtaining more adult education, or finding employment.
Community partners provide Early Head Start families with quality resources to help them meet their child and family goals. Staff help families find and access these resources.
This monthly family activity begins with a family meal. Then the children have supervised child care while parents get together for a discussion of their choice. Children then rejoin their parents for a fun joint activity.
Once every 3 months, there is a free activity to promote positive family interactions. In the past, the Parent Committee has planned activities such as a trip to Thanksgiving Point Farm Country, a cook out and visit from the Utah County fire fighters, family Olympics, and a visit to the Springville Art Museum.
Staff, parents, and local health care providers come together to plan health services in the Early Head Start program. This is done by linking children to continuing health care, planning responses to medical and dental emergencies, and working for easier access to health services that are responsive to family needs.
Families usually receive a weekly 90-minute visit at home from a trained Family Educator. Parents and the Family Educator plan and carry out learning experiences and activities to support the child's growth and development. Parents also receive support as they work on family goals.
Early Head Start provides regular developmental assessments to help parents know if their child is on track for healthy development and when extra support is needed. In addition, children may receive hearing screens, lead testing, and nutrition assessments.
